Sewing Machine Shopping......Holy Moly!!!

What do I know about sewing machines, absolutely  nothing!  Actually what do I know about sewing....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  So here I am in Kathmandu purchasing sewing machines, cloth, scissors, pins, washers....the list continues.

Over the past few months our many supporters in Australia and afar have contributed to  our Gatlang Community Project.  We are thrilled to have raised enough funds to now supply Hygiene packs (see www.daysforgirls.org) to the women and purchase the materials for them to continue making packs for other women in the Tamang communities.

So here I am negotiating the best deals on sewing machines in the worst Nepali ever spoken (not gifted with language skills).  So far so good and we are on our way to filling a jeep next week with all the gear!  The project will be monitored on a monthly basis with one of our Nepali ladies visiting the village to oversee production, training and management.

Our other exciting news from Nepal is we can also afford to purchase some sewing machines for the girls in our Kathmandu Childcare Homes allowing them to learn much needed skills for life outside Umbrella.  It's a busy and productive time and the team at Umbrella thank all our contributors for making this possible.

where do I start?

I christened this street....Sewing Machine Shop Street....near New Road, Kathmandu
