Season Greetings from the team at

The Umbrella Foundation Australia

Namaste to all our friends and supporters

It's Christmas Time!

Thant time of year when we all have the opportunity to share special times with family and friends.  In Australia we have all been affected by major natural disasters.  Our farmers are battling with drought and in recent time many of us are dealing with the massive fire that have taken lives, destroyed many homes and devastated our wildlife.

Whilst Umbrella Australia support communities in Nepal we are an Australia charity and as such acknowledge our own communities.  In the last twelve months we have donated funds from our fundraising efforts to support farmers and victims of the recent fires, an effort that we are very proud to have achieved.

None of this can happen without you, our supporters who, since 2013 through your donations, have helped the lives of many vulnerable communities.

The team at The Umbrella Foundation Australia wish you all an amazing Christmas!

Stay safe and may 2020 bring much happiness....and rain!

Enjoy our newsletter and please contact us if you have suggestions, ideas or want to somehow be involved with our small charity.…your input is very welcome.

Meet the team - Amelia

Amelia newsletter.jpg

Hi, I am Amelia and I joined Umbrella Australia after the Bollywood fundraiser in 2018.   I saw the promotion for the event on Facebook and am also friends with another member (Carolyn Scott), both being influencing factors in my decision to attend the event and join the enthusiastic and dedicated group.

I am the third born in a family of 4 children, all being 1-2 years apart in age...a fun childhood!  My younger brother is the only boy and used to beg me to become one too, he was desperate to have someone as passionate about kicking a ball about for hours as he was.  Though a tom boy, I was still not hardcore enough to satisfy his wish.

I have three children of my own, aged 19,18 and 16.  Tahlia has just completed her first year of Occupational Therapy at CSU in Port Macquarie, Isaac just finished the HSC and would like to find an apprenticeship as a carpenter and Amity is venturing into year 11 with her eyes currently set on becoming a paramedic.

I spend my time pondering where to next attack my beautiful federation home and how to do it effectively, efficiently and affordably!!! Unfortuately, I confess that I need to spend more time renovating and less time pondering!!  To finance my renovation project I regularly attend Maitland Hospital and trade my time assisting in theatre (scrub/scout nurse...favourites being orthopaedics and trauma) for a fortnightly bank deposit.  I've also been trying my hand at palliative care nursing, which I have been enjoying.

When not occupied with the above mentioned activities I love travel and hiking.  This I volunteered with an organisation in the Solomon Islands called 'Solutions Par Marovo'  who provide essential medical services in and around the Marovo Lagoon.  They provide an amazing service in an area that is financially, geographically and politically challenged....not unlike Nepal!!  I also hiked the Larapinta Trail, which is located west of Alice Springs and approx. 223km in length.  In June next year I will tick Thorseborne Trail, which is on Hinchinbrook Island in Nth QLD, off my bucket list (anyone interested in coming along?? I love hiking solo by may have room for 2-3 others...).

School Rebuild Update

We are also very excited to announce that our New Zealand partner Youth Education and Training Initiatives Nepal (YETI) have awarded scholarships to two students from Shree Bhimsen Secondary School.  Both students are taking computer studies, Basanta in Year 12 and Sangita in Year 11. YETI will support them through this stage of their studies and depending on progress into future courses of study at college if they choose.

We look forward to sharing all the details next year and thank the board & members of YETI for their amazing contribution to the school community.

As most of you are aware, Umbrella Australia have been supporting the post earthquake rebuild of Shree Bhimsen Secondary School which is located in Sindhupalchowk, one of the worst affected areas of the 2015 earthquake.

This week TUFA  have sent a further AU$10,000  toward the final section of the build which will contribute to the Library & Computer study room.  One more payment to go and the building will be complete!!!  This is all due to you, and we really can't wait to show off the incredible list of names who will be part of our 'Wall of acknowledgement'.  If you want to purchase a brick and include yourself on the wall you can Buy a Learning Brick
