Marginalized Women’s Education Program
This project addresses barriers faced by women like Ms. Shanti, who experienced the missed opportunity of school, endured poverty and vulnerability to exploitation and violence. Through providing basic education to marginalized girls and women we have the opportunity to support digital literacy, health, psychosocial counseling, safety and rights awareness to 150 women currently living in Nayabazar, Kathmandu.
Offering skills training, seed funding and job placements we can improve knowledge, entrepreneurship and income opportunities leading to economic empowerment and reduce the cycle of poverty and exclusion.
Ms. Shanti (37) was born and raised in severe poverty and moved to Kathmandu for work at 13. She worked in a hotel and was deceived into marrying a man who was already married. After having two children, the husband abandoned her, leaving her with full childcare responsibilities and forcing her to miss out on an education.
Many girls in Nepal face similar barriers, leading to low-paid work, limited skills and continued poverty. Many are at risk of violence, stress, discrimination, often leaving them with limited life choices.
This program creates lasting impact by breaking the cycle of poverty and exclusion faced by women like Ms. Shanti. It provides education, life skills, psychosocial support and rights awareness to build confidence and independence.
Digital literacy, skills training, seed funding and job placement help women secure sustainable livelihoods. Over time, this reduces their vulnerability to violence and discrimination, enabling women to support their children’s education, creating stronger and more resilient communities across generations.
